when ash won the kalos league against alain he was asked by diantha to be co-champion with her for a time while she was extremely busy with acting work. it was expected to be a short-term thing, but the people of kalos loved ash so much and he did such a good job of it that after briefly traveling kanto again with paul, he officially took on the kalos elite four and diantha herself, usurping her as the sole kalos champion.he still travels from time to time, but mostly he wanders around the kalos region when he feels restless and he has battles with anyone who asks (off-record, of course).he and paul were married as soon as they were able and the kalos region is accepting and enthusiastic about their relationship. paul is a private man, so ash gets most of the spotlight - that doesn't stop people from asking him to comment on his husband a lot of the time.

paul stopped battling officially when he moved to kalos, but he had stopped for the most part altogether after the sinnoh league concluded. even though he and ash were dating by the sinnoh arc's finale, he didn't follow ash to unova and instead took time to reflect on himself back in sinnoh. during this time he was outed to the sinnoh public at large, including his family - and subsequently disowned. it was extremely hard on him, and he ended up turning to dawn as a source of friendship and comfort despite hardly getting along with her at all previously. she was friends with ash and was around and willing, so he took the offer.he lived with her in her twinleaf home for some time, other times traveling alone, trying to avoid the public's scrutiny as much as he could - until ash won the kalos league and finally asked him to move there with him.nowadays, paul will battle someone every now and again, but for the most part, deciding to stop was probably the best choice for him. he hadn't chosen to become a trainer of his own accord - instead being pushed into it by his father and the pressure from reggie stepping down from battling himself. becoming a champion was all that mattered to him, and because of that it had pushed him to behave in ways that were harmful to himself and others. his friends can all see that he's much happier with that burden lifted.

•day one with squirtle something bad happened akin to the spearow attacks from ash's first day. i dont think squirtle saves her but maybe it does??
•at first reports back to parents often and in good spirits but as she messes up more and more she turns down their calls and stops messaging them at all. maybe gary sends someone to find her?
•lots of near-death experiences - she knows how to cook but maybe cant find ingredients easily. nearly falls off cliffs a lot. lots of bruises and scratches. lots of miserable nights in the woods.
•refuses to travel with anyone who offers - makes almost no friends in kanto but grows extremely close to her pokemon
•due to her turbulent journey, she doesn't win enough badges to enter the league when it rolls around. she believes she's worked hard enough, but they deny her entry anyway. in her rage, she corners a trainer who did get all 8 badges who looks enough like her for her to beat up and steal this trainers id card. she enters as this trainer instead of herself and isn't caught until she's already battled her way up to the final two trainers. at that point she's finally discovered and swiftly disqualified - making the trainer she was about to battle win by default. since it's her first journey and she's incredibly young, they only ban her from returning to enter the kanto league again for 1 year - she isn't banned in other regions like she would have been if she were deemed more mature, so she decides to travel to the next region over to start again.

•she very quickly meets scarlet and the two hit it off immediately. theyre both pretty abrasive and strong, so when they battle they bond easily. scarlet joins her as her first travel partner
•it's maybe only 1 or 2 badges into the journey that scarlet hears word of what adele did in the kanto league - adele is a bit well-known simply for being professor (gary) oak's daughter, so her reputation precedes her and someone tips scarlet off. she's horrified since she has a strong sense of justice and immediately demands to hear adele's side of the story. but when she explains herself, scarlet still doesn't think she was justified and breaks off their friendship, leaving adele to travel alone once again. adele is angry and feels betrayed (like scarlet does) so she lashes out by insulting scarlet and she forms a one-sided rivalry where adele's only goal is to make scarlet feel as miserable as possible
•adele doesn't want to be left alone again, so the very first "trainer' she sees at a nearby gym, she sweeps away to travel with her. as it turns out, griffin isn't actually a trainer which angers adele. she takes him out to the forest, lends him a pokeball, and helps him catch his first pokemon - a hoppip. he's a bit disappointed that his first catch is something so weak but she assures him it's fine (even if she does think its a bit funny)
•on this journey griffin grows incredibly close to adele since to him she's nothing but helpful to him as a new trainer. she seems to be very cool and knowledgeable to him and she always happens to give him advice when he needs it the most (which is usually just a coincidence on her part). they are actually compatible as travel companions, though, and adele grows to like him as a friend as well.
•eventually griffin also learns about adele's past (not sure how?) but they've grown close enough at this point that he can't imagine traveling without her or condemning her. if scarlet is involved, she would call him out and tell him he's siding with a criminal, but griffin only has adele's side of the story and believes what she did was righteous.
•adele once again loses the league, but so do griffin and scarlet. not sure who if any of them battle each other yet. griffin makes the tough decision to travel through kanto like adele did (maybe he's made a friend already to travel with him? idk) which leaves adele to move on to hoenn alone

•the champion, caspian, is incredibly charming and powerful - uses a zeraora. secretly he's the villain of this section, and he lures adele into believing in his cause for a while by impressing her with his power and charisma.
•is defeated by scarlet in the league, griffin makes it further than her but maybe gets defeated by scarlet as well. not sure if i want scarlet to win the league or not. if she does, it'd be sick if during the final battle, combusken starts to evolve and rather than save the evolution for after they win, like they had previously agreed to do like adele and wartortle, she instead allows it and wins the battle after. adele would be angry, like a pact had been broken between them even though they hadn't been friends for a long time now and scarlet owed her nothing
•caspian is discovered to be hoarding legendary and mythical pokemon by capturing them against their will in a ball not meant to release them. probably involving some kind of other nefarious deeds as a pokemon villain does. when he's found out, he panics and launches an attack on the league building as well as the town surrounding it, injuring countless people and pokemon.
•adele risks her life as well as the lives of her pokemon by going after caspian even though she was repeatedly told not to by those around her and to just wait until more people could go after him at once. reinforcements hadn't come in yet. she refused to wait and instead charged him, resulting in the extreme injury of her pokemon, most of all her wartortle. when she was defeated, scarlet instead showed up with the reinforcements and defeated caspian herself.
•wartortle, extremely disappointed in its trainers decisions, decides to leave adele. maybe it even breaks its own pokeball? the rest of adele's pokemon follow suit - maybe most of them just return to the lab back at home but none of them want to continue to train with her after the stunt she pulled.
•griffin doesn't follow her to unova, siting the fact that she seemed dangerous and he didn't want to be around her when she acted like that

•im distinctly picturing a scene where adele is defeated (pretty far in the league) again and while shes standing there, not moving or saying anything from the total shock, she hears griffin (in the stands) screaming her name. she turns to him and he cheers for her, telling her she did a fantastic job. she turns back to look across the field again, and she drops to her knees to cry hard, clutching her head - but she cant help but feel a bit warm from griffin encouraging her like that. its still an extremely bitter defeat since in this journey, she might be healing and accepting friendship a lot more easily than she ever did before (espeically after what happened in sinnoh) and she thought for sure that she was stronger than she's ever been

human typing
the reason that humans have "types" (separate but not dissimilar from those that pokemon have), can be attributed to a common ancestor shared by humans and pokemon in the "human-like" egg category. humans evolved alongside pokemon and while most lost their ability to utilize their typings (and all lost their abilities to use uniquely-named "moves"), they make up for that in their ability to form broader civilizations than most pokemon can, as well as to raise, train, and command pokemon in battle. some pokemon have been known to "train" other pokemon, but generally speaking, this is a trait most commonly found in humans.types that humans can be, listed in order of commonality, are: fighting, psychic, fairy, dark, & ghost.fighting types are usually passionate, strong-willed humans with a proclivity for physical strength. they are not incapable of intelligence - in fact, being the most common typing, many professors and scholars are fighting type. muscle might build quicker than those with other typings but on the other hand, they might be more prone to mood swings and anger. a "+" symbol usually denotes aura powers - either being able to sense aura or manipulate it - but it can also refer to physical strength beyond what could be expected of a typical human being.psychic types are often split into two different sub-categories: analytical and empathetic. those in the first group often have an easier time memorizing school notes or piecing together information - they're known for being intelligent but also can come across as cold or unfeeling. on the other hand, those in the second group tend to have high levels of empathy and creativity, often coming off to others as intuitive (or somewhat being able to tell the future). however, some people argue that both categories mix too often to be cleanly split and that generally the psychic type has a broader range of abilities than others. a "+" symbol can mean anything from telekinesis and telepathy to being able to read the thoughts of pokemon or predicting the future with unusual accuracy.fairy types are a rarer category and not much is known about them. in general they might be cunning and sly, able to somewhat manipulate those around them to do their bidding. they often have youthful appearances and might give off a "creepy", ethereal vibe. a "+" symbol might mean they can sense aura (not usually being able to fully utilize it like fighting types) or that they have anti-ageing powers which make them appear much, much younger than they actually are. further research is needed to determine if fairy types are capable of having any other unique powers.dark types are similarly rare, often getting confused for other types even after tests have been conducted. they're known to be sinister and irritable, but like any other type, sterotypes aren't always what determines a dark type's character. they are often misunderstood and feel like outcasts - prone to depression and "dark" thoughts. a "+" symbol has only ever been documented to mean a certain extra level of "luck" but this is debated as many researchers do not believe in the concept at all. otherwise, dark type powers have not been researched to a satisfactory extent.ghost is a unique typing, as it does not come about naturally and has only been found in humans who have undergone intense physical and emotional trauma (often in near-death situations). it's been theorized that to become ghost type means that you have been "chosen" by the ghost realm as an emissary, but this has not been proven. most people who become ghost type develop some form of "+" power, but these powers vary greatly. some of the powers reported to come from those with the ghost typing include being able to walk through walls, float short distances (or, allegedly, all the time), talk to pokemon, read other's minds, sense impending danger or turning invisible. none of these have been able to be fully researched or documented, and in fact, many other powers have been rumored but not proven. many of these powers could have come from other previous typings, and no one is sure if any of these powers are even "human".
